Growing up, my brother and I would spend the night at our grandparents' house on occasional weekends. In the kitchen hung an old cuckoo clock that my grandfather would stop at night before we all went to bed, to the great dismay of my brother and me. No matter how we begged to hear the funny bird all night, our sleep remained boring and undisturbed.
